Tight end

From the description of former Missouri Tiger tight end Kendall Blanton, you would likely be a bit surprised to learn that he also did not hear his name called in the 2019 NFL Draft. The young man stands a towering 6-foot-6 and weighs nearly as much as an offensive lineman at 260-pounds. Truth be told, he has all the size to indeed make a solid offensive lineman.

But for now, his career is following the narrow track of pass receiver and blocker, and he’s had only mixed success to this point. That could be changing this year. After all, Blanton is back for his third season with the LA Rams, trying to get a roster spot, and he continues to show up a little better each season, each training camp, each preseason game.

Because the LA Rams lost veteran Gerald Everett, the Rams have an open roster spot. But due to the fact that second-year tight end Brycen Hopkins has not has a very good camp or preseason, the roster may have two openings for tight ends this year. Of course, the arrival of Jacob Harris and all of his potential could prove to be enough to claim a roster spot.

But Blanton has put up a good fight, and on my scorecard is ahead of Hopkins for whatever roster spot remains for the fourth tight end on this team. That could eek into the 53-man spot, or simply be one of the first practice squad spots filled. But Kendall Blanton has earned the chance to remain with the LA Rams.
