Defensive back

The LA Rams signed up University of Alabama Birmingham’s (UAB) defensive back Brontae Harris as an undrafted rookie free agent, but they’ve definitely been impressed with what he has shown the team so far through OTAs, training camp, and preseason games.

Why this player?

After losing veteran Troy Hill to free agency, the Rams needed to reinforce their secondary. Drafted rookie Robert Rochell injured his wrist, and Brontae Harris has taken advantage of the opportunity by putting up some impressive numbers so far.

What should you be looking for?

Brontae Harris has been getting a lot of work because the LA Chargers targetted him relentlessly in the first preseason game. In fact, in two games, Harris stands among the team leaders for tackles with nine, plus he has added an interception to his stats sheet. While he may not get four quarters of work, he will need to make this game count. Look for how well he delivers his pass coverage, stops the run, and sheds blockers.

What constitutes a great game?

A great game for Harris would be a solid performance with no mental or communication mistakes. He is working to showcase not only his own talents but how well he fits in the Rams defensive scheme. That doesn’t necessarily mean that he must get three interceptions but depends more heavily if he fills his role and plays headsy football.
