Edge rusher

The LA Rams certainly were interested in reinforcing their edge rushing, and outside linebacker Chris Garrett specializes in that role. He dominated at Concordia and hopes to bring that expertise with him to the NFL. Now, he’s out to prove that a small school rookie does indeed deserve a shot to play for the LA Rams.

Why this player?

In his outing against the Las Vegas Raiders, he put on a clinic. In ten minutes, he had tipped a pass to a teammate for an interception, had a huge tackle for a loss, got a share of a quarterback sack, tipped another pass, and got yet another quarterback sack. While that was just one preseason game, it was electrifying to watch.

What should you be looking for?

Now that he’s popped onto team radars, it’s critical For Garrett to put up another good performance. Much of the hesitation to draft him by NFL teams was the disbelief that he could repeat anything close to his college football production in the NFL. Now, the key is to follow up that breakout performance against the Raiders with a solid showing against the Broncos.

What constitutes a great game?

To be honest, a repeat performance against the Broncos that looks like the game he had against the Raiders would do it. A multiple sack performance would practically seal his spot on the 53-man roster. With the LA Rams struggling with the health of both Terrell Lewis and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, Garrett could leapfrog both with a big game. And he’s already proven to be quite capable of delivering one.
