Bargain basement cost, top-shelf production
In fact, Williams has been one of the most impressive defensive backs, cornerbacks, in the NFL over the past two years. That’s especially significant when you compare his cost to NFL players who he performs in the company of. Over two years time, San Franciso 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman counted nearly $28 million against the salary cap. Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander has counted approximately $17 million against the salary cap over the past two seasons.
Darious Williams has counted less than $2 million against the salary cap over the past two seasons. So why randomly compare Williams’s earnings to that of Sherman and Alexander? Simple. They are the two other NFL cornerbacks mentioned in comparison to Darious Williams in terms of performance grades over the past two seasons by Pro Football Focus.

When discussing the best defensive backs in the NFL, there is no surprise when either Richard Sherman is named, or Jaire Alexander. But so far, Darious Williams has not gotten to that level of name recognition or respect that is rightfully due him. Why? Well, he did just burst onto the scene as a major player in 2020. And like it or not, the NFL analysts turn their attention to the money-makers in the NFL.
That type of compensation hasn’t happened to Darious Williams, well not just yet anyway.
