In the past, head coach Sean McVay had hoped to challenge defenses deep.  This year, that is exactly how the Rams were able to overcome the run-stuffing Bears defense. Matthew Stafford opened the Rams season with touchdown passes of 67 yards, 56 yards, and two yards.

The LA Rams are now 1-0 and face a more determined Indianapolis Colts team at 0-1. This is not a case of a good team on the road against a bad home team. Judging how past seasons have gone, the ability to judge good teams from not-so-good teams doesn’t really kick in until week four. But by that time, injuries have begun to take their toll on the unfortunate teams.

The Indianapolis Colts were the 10th-ranked defense and 9th-ranked offense in 2020.  While they tried to do the dink-and-dunk against the Seattle Seahawks, they came out on the short end of the final score. I don’t expect a similar strategy this week. They will try to match the Rams’ offensive firepower with their own fireworks.
