Quarterback

Nobody really knew what to expect from LA Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. After all, he was arriving on the LA Rams roster, a team loaded with talented weapons. Would he be paralyzed like a child confronted with 44 flavors of ice cream at the Baskin Robbins counter? Or did he run the risk of trying too hard, or simply trying to connect with receivers he hadn’t familiarized himself with? On the other hand, would he be the perfect fit quarterback who would lock and load the artillery?

At the end of the game, it appeared to be closer to the latter. Stafford had passed for 321 yards and three touchdowns. A very good opening performance, for sure. But how does that type of performance rank in Fantasy Football? Surely he would be a fantasy football leader, right? Well, he was actually the 10th-ranked quarterback (24.34 points) in fantasy football for week one of the 2021 NFL season per FantasyPros.com. The LA Rams former quarterback? Jared Goff (29.92 points) managed to claim the third-best quarterback in fantasy football.

Now, keep in mind that Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp fell just shy of giving Stafford a fourth touchdown pass, had that occurred, Stafford would have been among the Top-3 with a score over 30 points. I’d be willing to guess that he will have that type of outing against his week two opponent, the Indianapolis Colts.  I think that’s so because he will be even better in the second week. And I think that the Colts’ offense will try to match the Rams scoring with a high-octane shootout type of game.

Stafford will have no shortage of weapons when facing the Indianapolis Colts. The Seattle Seahawks put up four touchdowns in that game against the Colts: Tyler Lockett had two TDs, DK Metcalf has one TD, and Gerald Everett had one TD. Stafford will likely be in line to match or exceed that output.
