Who would have thought that the LA Rams defense would outshine the Rams offense now that veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford is under center? Well, as expected, defenses do not take long to figure out what the Rams offense is doing, and the Indianapolis Colts had some first-hand experience with the Rams offense just last week when they lost to the Seattle Seahawks.

This week, they have been holding their own, although just like the Rams season opener against the Chicago Bears, they have a halftime lead and will get the ball to open the second half. The Colts seem to be doing a much better job of keeping the lid on the Rams’ offense, forcing the Rams to stick with a short to the intermediate passing game.

The Rams offense has done a bit better job of running the ball. The Rams have rushed 10 times for 25 yards. It’s not good, but it is a far sight better than last week’s halftime totals of seven rushes for just twelve yards. Surprisingly, just like last week, quarterback Matthew Stafford is connecting with wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who leads the Rams with five receptions for 63 yards and a touchdown. Kupp’s TD is the only touchdown scored so far. Unfortunately, Stafford threw his first interception today as the Rams quarterback.

The defense has allowed the Colts to put up over 200 yards of offense in the first half, but they only have six points to show for it. You see, the defense has created two turnovers. The first occured when the Colts had first and goal from the one-yard line and tried unsuccessfully to run the ball in three times.  On fourth down, they tried passing the ball, but Leonard Floyd sacked the Colts quarterback Carson Wentz for a nine-yard loss. The defense held and the Rams offense took over on downs.

The second turnover occured when Carson Wentz had the ball on a third-down and goal from the LA Rams three-yard line, and he threw it to inside linebacker Troy Reeder for an interception. Reeder returned the ball to the Rams five-yard line.

The Rams have the football to open the second half. In keeping with last week’s script, hopefully, the LA Rams will put another touchdown on the board. And thanks to the strong running of Darrell Henderson, that is exactly what the LA Rams do to open the second half.
