LA Rams OLB manhunt ended: LB Jamir Jones claimed off waivers

What is there to like about this addition?
Jones joins WR Ben Skowronek as a second new face on this team from Notre Dame. So what can well tell you about this latest Fighting Irish player to pique your interest? Well for starters, he played in 14 games and generated 38 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, 4.5 quarterback sacks, one pass breakup, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. He missed his entire 2018 season due to injury.
In two preseason games, Jamir Jones was a buzzsaw of productivity. Against the Detroit Lions, he finished with four tacks, 0.5 quarterback sacks, and two quarterback hits. Against the Carolina Panthers, he upped his game to eight tackles, one quarterback sack, to quarterback hits, and one tackle for a loss. That is pretty solid production for an outside linebacker.
We found an interview of Jamir Jones from Irish on Tap from February 2020. It’s an hour-long discussion, but it does offer some insight into the player. He understands that the key to the NFL is being willing to play and be productive on special teams.
Funny that. A player added to the Rams roster with an emphasis on the special teams’ performance. If you have the time to listen, start about the 2:00 mark. If you want to hear his special team’s thoughts, jump to the 6:00 mark. He’s a good and entertaining young man. He will fit the LA Rams roster well.
If the Steelers wanted to add Jones to their practice squad, they are disappointed. He is going to the LA Rams.
Per Steelers Now writer Alan Saunders, Jamir Jones outplayed veteran outside linebacker Cassius Marsh and sixth-round draft pick Quincy Roche throughout training camp. Due to a shortage at their outside linebacker position, he had played in all three games for the Steelers so far and had even started a game. Unfortunately, he was thrown into NFL games before he was ready.
But he is a smart player, who can take that experience and build upon it. He will have the chance to grow, to develop, to be mentored and coached up with the LA Rams. If you need a current player on the roster who he may play like? His style is a bit like Ogbonnia Okoronkwo. He may need to add some power, but he is the type of player who is willing to do whatever it takes to add value and help the team.
