The LA Rams are 5-1 and are finally coming home after a storied and successful two weeks of road games. It’s a stop home to take on the winless Detroit Lions and then back on the road to face the 1-5 Houston Texans.

October is the easiest stretch of the team’s 2021 schedule, a stretch that could propel all the way to a 7-1 record before facing a tougher and more determined string of NFL opponents.

The LA Rams defeated the New York Giants relatively easily, despite the fact that the Rams were such lopsided favorites when the betting line opened. This week’s odds are even more lopsided.

The New York Giants’ roster was fairly depleted with injuries when they hosted the Rams.  The Lions’ do not project to as limited by the time the Week 7 kickoff arrives. The Rams face former CB coach Aubrey Pleasant, former DL Michael Brockers, and former QB Jared Goff. I expect they all want to put up their best in Week 7.

The team has placed both OLB Justin Hollins and DB Darious Williams on IR, and tight end Johnny Mundt appears to have suffered a serious knee injury in Week 6. The Lions face former QB Matthew Stafford and DL A’Shawn Robinson in this one.

Of course, we’ll learn more as the week progresses. The Rams offense is improving with each week, currently the sixth-ranked in the NFL. The Lions are the 28th-ranked offense in the NFL.  Likewise, the Rams defense is the ninth-ranked stingiest NFL defense, while the Lions are the 25th-ranked defense.

This game pits QB Matthew Stafford and DL A’Shawn Robinson against their former team, and QB Jared Goff and DL Michael Brockers against their former team. Will that play a part? If anything, it may hurt the Rams, as they are not dominant on defense, and Goff could be especially motivated to play well.

Lions vs Rams Odds, Spread, Over/Under & Betting Pick Week 6

Odds are courtesy of WynnBET (but are subject to change quickly)

Point Spread

  • Lions +15.5 (-110)
  • Rams -15.5 (-110)

Money Line

  • Lions +750
  • Rams -1200

Over/Under 49.5 points

  • Over -110
  • Under -110

Recommended Bets:

Take the over in this one at 49.5 points (-110)
Take the Rams on the Moneyline (-1200) to win outright

The Moneyline for this one will likely change multiple times, and will likely improve if you want to bet on the Rams.

I would be cautious about the current spread of 15.5 points. That is a huge number to overcome for the Rams, despite playing at home. I’m concerned that the Rams could take the winless Lions too lightly, and Goff could play a good game because he is quite familiar with the Rams and SoFi Stadium. He will also be apt to have a better-than-average game due to head coach Dan Campbell calling him out after the Week 6 loss.

The total for the game is set at an over/under of 49.5 points at -110. To bet the over or under in this one, you need to bet $110 to win $100. If you like the under at -110, you need to bet $110 to win $100.

We were 3-0 in our recommendations for Week 3. Hopefully, we’ll remain on the winning track in Week 7.

Lions vs Rams Prediction Week 7

The team started out shakily in Week 6 but pulled things together en route to a decidedly lopsided victory on the road. Before we pat ourselves on the back too quickly, the Giants offense was without its top rusher and its top three receivers.  The Rams did what they were expected to do.

Will they be able to meet expectations against the Detroit Lions? I don’t like that spread one bit. Despite losing every game, the Lions only lost by 11 or more points twice this season: To the Green Bay Packers and to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Similarly, the team has had a margin of victory at or over 11 points twice this season: To the Chicago Bears and to the New York Giants.  I love the chances to win this one. But I don’t like a scenario where head coach Sean McVay finds the team up by two touchdowns and must continue to pile on more points against a former player. That doesn’t feel like his style.

Our recommendations:
Take the Over at 49.5 points (-110)
Take the Rams on the Moneyline (-1200) to win outright
