The Pittsburgh Steelers may not have an offense that frightens opponents any longer, but the defense is still impressive. OLB Melvin Ingram III is certainly one reason. Still, he has not yet found symmetry with the other defenders, leading to rumors that he could be on the trade block at the deadline.

Melvin Ingram III, as you might recall, has been a staple of the LA Chargers defense for many years. In fact, he played for the Chargers for nine seasons before signing on with the Steelers this year. Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing in at 247 pounds, Ingram is big enough to lay a heavy load on the quarterback for the sack, yet mobile enough to cover receivers out in the flat as well.

He has not had his historic success in the Steelers defense, and he could be on the move once more. The Rams would be smart to try to trade for him, as he has plenty in the tank. In fact, he is versatile enough to play either in a two-point stance as an outside linebacker, or place his hand in the dirt as a defensive lineman.

Ingram would be a solid pickup for the Rams at the trade deadline. Not only would he help pressure a gauntlet of top-tier quarterbacks that the Rams have yet to face, but his veteran leadership would be most welcome on a team with so many young contributors.

Ingram knows Los Angeles, albeit from the Chargers.  That familiarity gives him a leg up on focusing his attention on the Rams. As the Rams are about to near the midpoint of the season, adding a veteran to the pass rush would be a good direction to take.
