8 – New York Jets

So, does It seem to you that the LA Rams are not as strong at secondary as once thought? Sure, the team handled the likes of the hapless New York Giants who played without their top three wide receivers of the season. But if not for Jalen Ramsey, who has stepped up against some of the best receivers in the NFL? Unfortunately all too few.

Right now, there is the belief that the New York Jets could trade one of the better safeties in the NFL, albeit he is having a remarkably poor showing so far this season. Marcus Maye is looking to be traded.

Could the Rams front office be willing to take a chance on a gifted player who is paid very well and is facing legal challenges? Ah, that’s the magic of the NFL trade deadline, now isn’t it?

Well, not so fast at pulling the trigger on any trade. You see, Marcus Maye’s performance has tanked this season, which is why the New York Jets would be interested in fielding trade offers. Marcus Maye had a DUI in February 2021 and failed to report the incident to the New York Jets.

That all adds up to any NFL team willing to acquire Maye doing extensive research and vetting to ensure that there is bedrock at the base of any potential legal or mindset issues with the player. The Jets are clearly in rebuild mode, and will likely weigh any attempt to re-sign their defensive back very cautiously.  Is that an opening for the Rams to rent the guy for a year to bolster an underperforming defense?

Well, if so, now is the time to do so.
