WR promotion

The LA Rams could even consider promoting rookie wide receiver Landen Akers from the practice squad. What Akers does not have in a lengthy NFL resume, he more than makes up for in familiarity with the offense and special teams. And he could be ‘that guy,’ who comes up from the practice squad this year to astound everyone.

He is a 6-foot-0, 191-pound wide receiver who signed on with the LA Rams after the 2021 NFL Draft and who hails from the Iowa State Cyclones. His 4.39-second 40-yard dash time should be enough to give him some chances on special teams, either in returning the football or in coverage.

While he has not been promoted in the past, the Rams offense has another vacancy. If not now, then clearly he is planned to remain on the shelf until the 2022 NFL season. That could be unwise because the Rams clearly need an infusion of speed into the Rams of the receiving corps now. The team has lost veteran DeSean Jackson, and rookies Tutu Atwell and Jacob Harris, all of whom were blessed with lightning-fast speed.

Akers may not excite many, but he has the familiarity with the team to be a contributor this season. Right now, the Rams roster needs more than warm bodies. This team needs active contributors who can help the team maintain the health of starters, while also winning games.
