The LA Rams are in a bit of a funk right now, and the powers-that-be seem to be suffering a prolonged struggle to get it resolved. After all, this was a team that depended a great deal upon having the right players in the right positions, as long as they all stayed healthy. But the team never got to the starting line intact. Before the season ever started, the team lost starting running back Cam Akers.

Bad luck or opportunity for excuses? The organization had plenty of time, settled on trading for Sony Michel from the New England Patriots, and pressed on.

When the team lost tight end, Johnny Mundt, to another injury, the front office was forced to replace a vital piece to the offense once more. The team already boasted tight end Kendall Blanton but opted to promote tight end Kendall Blanton to the active roster and slide him into the second tight end role.

And of course, the team lost starting wide receiver Robert Woods for the season. Whether you believe him to be a plus or minus, the Rams had just added veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. All in all, the LA Rams have had to face the loss of a vital player to their offense, and the front office has addressed filling the roster need in three different ways. Yet, here we are, stuck in a one-dimensional offense without a clear plan in place.

Huh?

Yes, that’s right. The team has been stuck in the overthink of trying to resolve the challenges currently facing the team by creating fixes on the whiteboard. While it’s always a good plan to measure twice and cut once, there is a risk of overcomplicating issues sometimes as well. Keep in mind that this team has not rushed often when the running game works. This team has also pulled the starters off the field in two games for the entire fourth quarter.

Both actions have skewed this team’s statistics to paint a dimmer picture of the running game than is truly there.
