After dropping the early contest to the Arizona Cardinals on Week 4, the LA Rams have a golden opportunity to travel to the desert and return the favor. Since that matchup, both teams remained two of the most successful teams in the first half of the 2021 NFL season. In recent weeks, that has not been the case.

You see, as the Rams began to struggle under the growing weight of numerous injuries, they ran into the buzz saw of their schedule, facing a gauntlet of a much improved Tennessee Titans team, the ever-dangerous San Francisco 49ers team, and the frozen tundra of the Green Bay Packers home at Lambeau field in successive contests.

While the Cardinals added tight end, Zach Ertz, the LA Rams are not quite the same team that lost in Week 4. The Rams have since lost NT Sebastian Joseph Day, WR Robert Woods, RB Jake Funk, WR Tutu Atwell, WR DeSean Jackson, ILB Kenny Young, TE Johnny Mundt, andTE/WR Jacob Harris. The team Is also trying to work RB Darrell Henderson and OC Brian Allen back from injuries as well.

If there is any game in the remainder of the schedule where this team could sneak an upset victory, Week 14 feels like the game. In this one, the Cardinals need to win to fend off both the Green Bay Packers and the Tamp Bay Buccaneers. If they lose, the NFC Playoff chase instantly becomes far more exciting, all the way to Week 18.

The betting line opens early with the LA Rams showing up as a slight underdog. That’s about right. If the Rams continued to try a pass-centric offense, I was fully prepared to recommend the Cardinals in this one. But the mind of head coach Sean McVay is moving now, and when it does, good things start to happen.

I like the role of road dogs, as the team has performed rather well in that role. I love them as road dogs in this week’s game because the only sting to the Cardinals is their chances to win the top-seed spot in the NFC Playoffs. For all intents and purposes, the Cardinals have a playoff berth locked up. So far, they have shown up each week presuming to win. They may face a very determined opponent in this one.

Rams vs Cardinals Prediction Week 14

This will be a much more physical game than Week 4, and I envision the offense committing more energy to their rushing offense, ball control, and ball security in this one. The run defense was pretty bad in their first matchup, as the Cardinals rushed for over 200 yards. RB Chase Edmonds was particularly nasty, getting 120 yards on just 10 carries.

Since that game, the run defense has improved somewhat. Thanks to the play of rookie Ernest Jones over the middle, and Greg Gaines on the line of scrimmage.

The coaching staff has had plenty of film footage to study, and know the tendencies of the Cardinals. With Arizona finally getting a win against their NFC West nemesis in Week 4, look for the tables to turn in this one. It’s very difficult to sweep a division rival.

That’s right. This feels like an upset.

Our recommendations:

Take the Rams and the points (+3.0) to win this one (-115)
Take the Rams on the Moneyline (+135) to win outright
Be patient on the Over/Under until later this week.
