Since head coach Sean McVay took over for the LA Rams, one player he has been able to count on is All-Pro defensive lineman Aaron Donald. Donald has put up double-digit quarterback sacks in each of the past four seasons, but 2021 saw a healthy Aaron Donald struggling to get to the quarterback.
In four games in November 2021, Donald was only able to get two sacks. After the Rams crushed the Jacksonville Jaguars, Donald’s season total climbed to just seven sacks, with five games to go. And the next opponent for the Rams, the Arizona Cardinals, held Donald to no quarterback sacks and just four tackles in Week 4. Fans were beginning to feel concerned. Opposing quarterbacks were beginning to feel comfy in the pocket.
Well, that’s all behind us now.
The Alpha male, and the Omega man
When the LA Rams need a player to step up at a critical time when the team is desperate, they need look no further than to turn towards All-Pro defensive lineman Aaron Donald. After all, he is the best in the NFL for good reason. But when the Rams prepared to play on Monday Night Football against their NFC West Division rivals, the Arizona Cardinals, the sudden outbreak of positive test results for COVID-19 among players decimated the roster.
But it also created a desperate need for Aaron Donald to step up. And, oh yeah, did he ever step up.
By the end of the game, the LA Rams star defensive lineman had five tackles, three quarterback sacks, and deflected a pass into the arms of inside linebacker Ernest Jones, which proved to be a crucial interception deep in the LA Rams territory. In fact, it was his first two-plus sack game of the 2021 season. Best of all, the game began as it started, with Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyle Murray wrapped up in the arms of Aaron Donald.
The LA Rams are back in business, and Aaron Donald is back to terrorizing quarterbacks once more.
