LA Rams opponent, the Seahawks, now facing COVID-19 issues too

The LA Rams have 16 players on COVID-19 reserve right now, and until today, were facing a completely healthy Seattle Seahawks roster. Well, that all changed today as the Seahawks have just reported placing two players on their COVID-19 reserve roster list. And if you recall how it went for the LA Rams, that could simply be the tip of the iceberg.

Now nobody wants illness to befall anyone. Right now, the LA Rams have 16 players assigned to their COVID-19 reserve roster. So it’s hardly comparable to consider the Seahawks roster impacted by the loss of two players as some sort of cosmic balancing. But the news today does indicate a less lopsided roster impact of the recent COVID-19 positive testing that is impacting the NFL this week. The rapid spread of the disease has forced seven NFL teams to impose enhanced COVID protocols:

But that could be just a sign of things to come for other NFL teams. The NFL has 1,696 players on the active roster of all 32 teams. In the past three days alone, the NFL has had over 100 players placed on reserve/COVID-19 lists.

This is a significant spike in positive test results and has resulted in the NFL and NFLPA discussing revisions to the current protocols to get ahead of the latest outbreak.

If the Seattle Seahawks follow the same track as the LA Rams, the Seahawks will face names being added to their list over the next several days. So far, no names have been added to the LA Rams COVID-19/Reserve list on December 16, 2021, which could be an indication that the Rams enhanced protocols have done their part and acted as a circuit-breaker to halt the spread of the disease among the players.

While just two players, WR Tyler Lockett is the Seattle Seahawks’ top receiver, and RB Alex Collins is their top rusher. Combined, they have produced 1,521 yards and seven touchdowns of offense. While the Seahawks will adapt by playing their reserves, the risk exists that additional Seattle players will join them before Sunday’s game.
