Trying to write an article predicting the LA Rams’ chances and strategy of winning amidst all of the COVID-19 chaos this week is akin to trying to color within the lines during a 7.5-magnitude earthquake. We’ll try our best, get something on paper, but it likely won’t be pretty.

Perhaps that same standard should apply to the LA Rams, a team that has had to standby as their roster was decimated by 29 players being designated as ineligible to play due to a positive test result for COVID-19.  The team has since removed 11 players from their COVID-19 list, but 18 players remain.  The Rams face competing in Week 15 without starting RT Rob Havenstein, TE Tyler Higbee, OLB Von Miller, and DB Jordan Fuller.

The Seattle Seahawks are dealing with their own issues, currently facing Week 15 with nine players on their Reserve/COVID-19 list.

This is a very fluid, dynamic situation. With the current number of players on both teams appearing on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, additions or removals from the eligible list of players could occur throughout the day until game time.

This game is a tough one to call. I love the physical style of play that the team has exhibited in each of the past two victories, but the fracas of trying to patch together a viable roster for this game has been a bit underestimated by NFL analysts.

The coaches are currently trying to assemble a game-day roster capable of compensating for the loss of more than a dozen contributors in one week’s time. Can anyone truly expect the team to win just by showing up at SoFi Stadium?

The Seattle Seahawks have been pushed around a bit this season by teams with determined running games.  But in terms of pass defense? The Seahawks currently rank as the worst in the NFL. Making matters worse, they field a defense that is 30th-ranked in terms of sacking the quarterback.

Offensively, the Seahawks remain dangerous with QB Russell Wilson under center. Because they play from behind so often, they have not had the opportunity to turn to a very very good running game, currently the seventh-best ground attack in the NFL. Due to the effectiveness of their running game, their passing game has been efficient, scoring 21 touchdowns and only allowing five interceptions.

To win this one, the offense will need to build a lead and then turn the defense loose on Wilson. But can the team do that with so many players still projected to sit this one out?

Spin the wheel?  Even now, the game-time rosters are completely up in the air. Unlike injured reserves, Reserve/COVID-19 lists do allow asymptomatic players to remain in contact with coaches and teammates. Any player who is reinstated will be fully aware of the game plan and should be able to contribute instantly.

Now the question is, who will be reinstated?

I like the Rams to win this one. They’ve shown a much better attitude in recent games and I believe that it sticks around for this one. While the Seattle Seahawks are not out of the NFL Playoff discussion just yet, a loss to the Rams will all but end their chance. Right now, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is likely weighing retirement options. This game could help make that decision for him.

The final score could be closer than some would like, but a win is a win is a win. I like the Rams to put up a lot of points in this one, and the Seahawks to open their offense in an effort to keep up in a shootout.

Rams Next Game and Schedule

It’s amazing how much better the LA Rams ‘feel’ amidst a two-game winning streak. If the Rams win in Week 15, and then Week 16, they are a virtual lock for a playoff berth. But is a Wild Card seed enough for the LA Rams this season?

Week 16: @ Minnesota (7-7)
Week 17: @ Baltimore (8-6)
Week 18: San Francisco (8-6)

The team has no true breather the rest of the way. Even the Settle Seahawks, the worst of the NFC West, clings to a hope of an NFL Playoff berth. The Rams do not face any team with little but the 2022 NFL Draft to play for.
