The LA Rams have set one record tonight, as Fox Sports reports that veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford has set the record for the fastest quarterback to get to 50,000 yards passing. Now the LA Rams have witnessed another record, this time it’s Stafford’s favorite target.
LA Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp has hauled in his 120th reception in Week 15. That is good enough for the most receptions in one season for the Rams franchise record.
Perhaps better yet, the Rama have three games yet, and the team is likely expecting more, much more, from Kupp this season.
Kupp entered the Week 15 contest with 113 receptions, 1489 yards, and 12 touchdowns. So far in this one, he’s come down with nine passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns (with 10:48 remaining in the fourth quarter).
Kupp can break all Rams single-season records this year
That gives Kupp 122 receptions, 1625 yards, and 14 touchdowns for the season. That puts Kupp just three touchdowns shy of the tying the Rams Franchise All-Time touchdown mark of 17 held by Elroy Hirsch in 1951. He is also just 156 yards shy of tying the Rams Franchise All-Time receiving yards mark in one season of 1,781 yards set by Isaac Bruce in 1995.
There are three games remaining in this season, and the pace that Kupp is on right now will likely break all of the All-Time Franchise receiver records for a single season, perhaps even before the Rams play their 17th game?
Before we all heap the deserved praise upon Kupp, and his quarterback, keep in mind that the Rams offensive outburst began with the power running of Sony Michel, who found the means to explode with strong running in the second half. That forced the Seahawks to play the run, and that opened up the pass for Stafford to Kupp.
The Rams defense holds the Seahawks to just 10 points and the Rams climb to 10 wins. Sure, it’s nice for Cooper Kupp to set records. But wins are better.
