The LA Rams roster had been severely impacted by the nearly instantaneous loss of 29 players to positive COVID-19 test results, and the team had to scramble just to sign enough players in order to compete in Week 15.  Having won that game has placed the entire organization in a position to welcome back many key players in time for this Week 16 contest.

But not all of the LA Rams stars have returned. The team faced a short week road game against the Minnesota Vikings without starting left tackle Andrew Whitworth, nor his backup, Joseph Noteboom.

The Minnesota Vikings have not been near as impacted, as the only player in COVID-19 protocols for this game is RB Dalvin Cook. Their running game has relied upon RB Alexander Mattison three times in the past, and Mattison has responded by averaging more than 100 yards per game and helping the Vikings to a 2-1 record when he has started.

Oddsmakers have leaned in the LA Rams favor this week, but it’s been a rather chaotic week for any type of data analytics. Who will be healthy? Who will start? That has been the unknown all week. On Game Day, we can finally answer some of the questions.

The defense will nearly be at full strength. Starting nose tackle Greg Gaines has been fighting off an ankle injury this week, and his availability is in question. The team really needs him in this one, as he is vital for the team’s rush defense. The offense may also struggle with both Andrew Whitworth and Joseph Noteboom on COVID-19 protocols.

The offensewill need to start an untested offensive lineman on Matthew Stafford’s blindside, and that is very dangerous indeed when facing Vikings’ pass rush, the best in the NFL.

Recommended Bets:

This game is most certainly a concern. The team had a short week for a roster that changed daily and with limited ability to practice together. Yikes. That’s certainly not the type of formula that screams “win”, now does it?

But somehow, the team has overcome this same type of adversity in the past two weeks and has gotten rather adept at preparing the team to compete amidst the most adverse conditions. If the team can win this one, they are a lock for the NFL playoffs. But somehow, I believe this team has set its sights a bit higher than that.

The Vikings can score. The question is, can the offense put up a ton of points in this one?  I think so (but cautiously). The team proved in Week 15 that committing to the power running game not only throws the opposing defense off track, but it helps their own defense achieve mastery.

I think that the offense can and will run in this one.

Take the Rams to win and give the points (-3.5) to win
Take the Rams on the Moneyline (- 175) to win outright
Take the OVER at 48.5 (-110) in this one

Rams Next Game and Schedule

The LA Rams are 10-4 and atop the NFC West as they prepare to play Week 16. But this is a perilous schedule that will test the team each week.

Week 17: @ Baltimore (8-6)
Week 18: San Francisco (8-7)

The team has no true breather the rest of the way. As such, look for the team to play their best football.
