Mid-season mayhem

Getting Von Miller and Odell Beckham Jr. is not a major task with training camp and preseason games to work out the details. Von Miller arrived with a sore ankle and did not suit up to face the Tennessee Titans. He did play for the Rams the following week, but it would take five games with the LA Rams before he would get his first quarterback sack.

Odell Beckham Jr. was thrown into the fire out of necessity. His production kicked in rather quickly, as he recorded his first touchdown for the Rams in just his second game with the team. So the LA Rams have a touchdown machine in OBJ, and a stalwart starting outside linebacker in Von Miller.

Now layer on the fact that they are playing on the same roster as Andrew Whitworth, Aaron Donald, Cooper Kupp, Sony Michel, Leonard Floyd, and even young rising-star, Greg Gaines.

Of course, the journey in any NFL season is a long and winding road. Bad teams can play quite well in some games. Good teams can play quite poorly as well. The key is to remain focused upon winning enough games to compete in the NFL Playoffs. Once there, it’s a three or four-game gauntlet that tests the resolve of the players and the innovation of the coaches.

When the LA Rams defense took the field in the first series against the Baltimore Ravens,  there was a feeling in the air, an unmistakable aura of positivity. The LA Rams were on a four-game winning streak. But they were winning in the most unusual ways.  The offense was running the ball. The defense had stepped up its play and was looking very much the part of a capable playoff team defense.
