LA Rams Draft Bryan Cook

With the 171st pick…

171. player. 830. . Safety. Bearcats . Bryan Cook

Of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams select Bryan Cook, safety, from the University of Cincinnati. Why so high? Well, even as the position seemed to be quite deep as the Rams entered the 2021 NFL Season, the results of the year were a bit disappointing. The Rams opted to go with Taylor Rapp and Jordan Fuller as the starters.

The coaches sent in Nick Scott to help out, and all but ignored Terrell Burgess in his second season. The team even waived Juju Hughes, who was claimed off waivers by the Detroit Lions. And then the secondary was scorched by a sore-handed Jimmy Garoppolo.

Send reinforcements

The Rams will need reinforcements for their secondary in 2022, and Bryan Cook appears to be one of the undervalued prospects already. So let’s find out what all the fuss is about?

Bryan Cook is a defensive back who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs in at 208-pounds. Perhaps a lingering effect from the Brandon Staley defense is valuing versatility in defensive backs, and Cook checks all the boxes. He has been used in centerfield, in the box as an eighth defender, and even in the slot to cover a receiver. He is even a very gifted player who should be ideally suited in a special teams’ role in the NFL.

in 21 games for the Cincinnati Bearcats, Cook accounted for 124 tackles, six tackles for a loss, one quarterback sack, and two interceptions. He has all of the necessary instincts and talent to contribute to the pass defense of an NFL secondary. Ideally, his strongest suit is run support. He is a vice-grip tackling machine, and he is an emotional leader who frequently elevates the intensity of the entire defense. The LA Rams need help in the secondary in 2022.  Bryan Cook will give that much and may compete for a starting role.
