With the 247th pick…

Of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams select Zonovan Knight, running back, North Carolina State. After the injury-riddled running back room limped through the 2021 NFL season, the Rams will be seeking a fresh set of durable legs to ensure a viable running game in 2022. And the Wolfpack’s Zonovan Knight has declared for the 2022 NFL Draft, placing him squarely in the sights of the LA Rams’ interest in landing a strong competitor for carries.

Zonovan Knight is 5-foot-11 and 210-pounds.  Big enough to power the ball, muscular enough to expect durability, and an ever-improving running game as he wears down the defenses. In three seasons for North Carolina State, he played 36 games, rushed 419 times, and gained 2,286 yards plus 18 touchdowns.

He was also quite active in the passing game, hauling in 48 passes for 337 yards. The Rams will be intrigued with his powerful north-south running style. But they will be enamored with his versatility.

Knight is a solid get at 247, particularly since he seems to be such a natural fit for the LA Rams offense.  He is remarkably patient for a collegiate running back, and will double step as he awaits creases in the line of scrimmage. But once the running lane opens, he is off with powerful piston-popping strides that create a very difficult ball carrier to tackle.

He also brings expertise as a kick returner, a position that proved to be a real thorn in the side of the LA Rams all season. All of this wrapped up into one package in Round 7 would be a huge plus for the team’s roster heading into 2022.

In the end, the LA Rams will need to be astute and strategic in the offseason. The team cannot afford to choose unwisely in either the 2020 NFL Draft or in the 2022 NFL Free Agency market. Hopefully, checking out who could be chosen in a mock draft like this will calm some of the more aggravating worries that the Rams will be handicapped next year without a Top-100 draft pick.
