The LA Rams have won 12 games in the regular season, and have now won their first playoff matchup. They, like seven other teams from this point in the playoffs, are just three games away from hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. The Rams played a very impressive game in the Wildcard Round of the NFL Playoffs and fielded the best defense and special teams unit in the postseason play so far.

Yes, I left out the offense. In a stroke of nearly pure genius, head coach Sean McVay drafted up a ‘rocking chair‘ game plan for Quarterback Matthew Stafford to help him get his first playoff victory. Rocking chair refers to a slang term used 50 years ago by cross-country truckers to refer to a truck traveling in the middle of two or more other trucks traveling in the same direction on the highway. This middle truck is less apt to get ticketed for speeding by police, and even benefits from better fuel mileage due to a process known as drafting. I.E. the middle truck got the benefit of faster travel without the risks of doing so.

Once, twice, three times Tom Brady

The team has historically matched up rather well against the Buccaneers. In 2020, it was the LA Rams led by then QB Jared Goff who defeated the Tom Brady-led Tampa Bay Buccaneers by a final score of 27-24.  It was likely the best game that the team played that year. In that game, rookie defensive back Jordan Fuller intercepted Brady twice, with the final pick occurring in the final moments to seal the win.

This year, the margin of victory was a bit more comfortable. A hot-handed Matthew Stafford hurled four touchdown passes, including one 75-yarder to DeSean Jackson to lead an offensive onslaught that put up 34 points to snap a Tampa Bay winning streak of 10 games, that carried over from the eight-game winning streak that carried them to their Super Bowl victory.

This will be the third time that the Rams will meet Brady with the Buccaneers.

The betting line opens early for the Divisional Round with the LA Rams showing up as a slight road underdog. I’m far more comfortable with these LA Rams playing the role of road underdog. It’s a role that is far more fitting of the team’s mindset.

The team was actually a bit more successful on the road, finishing the season with a 7-2 road record, while only mustering a 5-3 record playing on the football field of SoFi Stadium

Rams vs Bucs Prediction Divisional Round

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a stout rush defense and a solid passing game.  Fortunately, the offensive success only needs the Buccaneers to respect the run, as the playbook is built upon deceiving defenses into defending the run, and then hitting them with intermediate and deep passing routes.

The defensive pass rush is pretty formidable, and the fact is that with a couple of Buccaneers’ offensive linemen: Namely offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs and offensive center Ryan Jensen nursing injuries suffered at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Even if they suit up to play this week, that will be good news for the success of the pass rush, and the entire team’s chances.

Our recommendations:

Take the Rams and the points (+2.5) to win this one (-105)
Take the Rams on the Moneyline (+125) to win outright
This game feels like a high scorer. Take the Over (-110).
