The LA Rams have gotten as far as they did a year ago. As far as upgrading the team? Now we will find out whether or not this 2021 version of the team can advance any further in the NFL Playoffs.  If they do, they will compete in the NFC Championship Game. If they do not, well then we are heading to the 2022 NFL Draft.

So let’s see what the LA Rams can do about advancing, shall we?

The entire team put up a solid performance to get by the Arizona Cardinals in the Wildcard Round. But as some have pointed out, the Cardinals have been in a bit of a slump. Can the Rams, as they have played hot, outplay another playoff team that is playing red hot?

Well, we know that the offense gave quarterback Matthew Stafford a game plan that was almost autopilot in the Wildcard Round.  I would look for a lot more out of Stafford in the Divisional Round. Of course, much of Stafford’s success depends upon how well Joe Noteboom can anchor the blind side of the offensive line. This may be his last game for the team. He is taking the spot of Andrew Whitworth, a player who many fans suspect may retire at the end of this season.

Noteboom will play well.

The rushing attack will pose a solid threat to run the ball, as both running backs Cam Akers and Sony Michel looked good – very solid – against the Cardinals. The Buccaneers allowed the Eagles to rush for 95 yards, but more importantly, a 5.6 yards per rush average. Of course, the Buccaneers were never threatened by the Eagles’ passing attack. That won’t be the case in the divisional round.

The running attack will keep the Buccaneers defense honest. Bucs safety Jordan Whitehead was a heat-seeking missile against the Eagles. To keep him guessing, the offense will need to mix both runs and passes. The Rams proved that they can and will throw the deep ball. WR Van Jefferson will be more than ready to test their secondary once more.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have lots of concerns protecting QB Tom Brady. And in this game, those concerns are warranted.

Inactives

Rams: QB Bryce Perkins, S Taylor Rapp, RB Buddy Howell, OLB Chris Garrett, OLB Terrell Lewis, OL Tremayne Anchrum Jr., OT Andrew Whitworth
Buccaneers: QB Kyle Trask, QB Ryan Griffin, WR Cyril Grayson Jr., WR Breshad Perriman, RB Ronald Jones II, CB Pierre Desir, OT Tristan Wirfs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost four regular-season games to the New Orleans Saints, but they came back to beat them in the Divisional Round last year. Of course, they will be without two offensive stars. WR Chris Godwin is on IR, and the Buccaneers parted ways with WR Antonio Brown after Brown pulled himself out of the game. The Rams have won the last two games over the Buccaneers. Are they in danger as well?

Recommended Bets:

The defensive pass rush, spearheaded by DL Aaron Donald and OLB Von Miller has really been heating up recently. To stuff the run? Look to the playoff surge from A’Shawn Robinson and Greg Gaines? The defensive front needs to make a statement in this game by getting to Bucs QB Tom Brady early and often. With question marks over two key Buccaneers offensive linemen, that statement could be huge.

The Buccaneers have been to the top of the mountain, so they will be one of the toughest opponents to face throughout the playoffs, limping or not.

The team will be without Taylor Rapp and Andrew Whitworth. But if they can win and advance, they should be welcoming back both players, as well as ILB Ernest Jones, RB Darrell Henderson, and NT Sebastian Joseph Day.

The LA Rams get stronger if they win. Now, THAT’S an incentive that may pull the team to victory.
