Miracle of modern medicine

When the LA Rams learned that their starting running back, Cam Akers, had suffered a Torn Achilles Tendon before the season ever started, the balloon of hope for the team’s chances burst.  Not only was that the type of injury that truly tries a player’s mental toughness, but it often takes a year or more to heal. Then, after the body heals, that player must learn how to trust his body to play football once more.

But that was not the case for Akers. After being moved to the NFI list in late July 2021, many expected Akers to attempt his comeback in the summer of 2022. But he was back before the regular season ended, and even carried the football five times in the season finale. So far in the playoffs, Akers has rushed 54 times for 151 yards and no touchdowns. He’s also caught five of six passes thrown his way for 62 yards.

There are no mechanical flaws to Akers. The LA Rams simply have the bad luck to face several stout rush defenses in the playoffs. That will not be the case against the Bengals, and Akers can contribute to what I expect will be a good day to run for the Rams.  Can Akers break 100 yards on the ground? Well if he does not, the trio of Akers, Sony Michel, and Darrell Henderson Jr. could very likely top 150+ yards and a touchdown.

Hey nosey

When the LA Rams lost the play of Sebastian Joseph-Day, the team had to rely upon the combined efforts of Greg Gaines and A’Shawn Robinson. Now, some four months later, the Rams are welcoming back their former starting nose tackle, and just in time for him to create havoc and destruction against the Cincinnati Bengals offensive line.

SJD is an ideal fit for what the LA Rams need in this game. He has the intensity and infectious personality of veteran outside linebacker Von Miller. But he has the power and smoldering intensity of Aaron Donald. He is incredibly versatile and can slide into any position on the Rams defensive front.

What makes his return so special for the Rams roster is the fact that he has truly taken it up a notch this year, and he is as rested, fresh, and ready to go as he’s been all season. This game feels like a perfect opportunity for the young nose tackle to step up and create a huge name for himself in the NFL. He will have an ideal chance to get to the quarterback and shut down the Bengals running game. I think that is exactly what happens.
