A true LA Rams dynasty?

The Rams were in this position before when they relocated to St. Louis, Missouri. On that occasion, the Rams offense became known as the Greatest Show On Turf. That team made two Super Bowl appearances, once under head coach Dick Vermeil, and the second time under head coach Mike Martz.  However, some argue that the Saint Louis Rams never quite achieved a dynasty status

The reason? Some point to the fact that two different head coaches led that team to the Super Bowl in three years. Others point to the fact that those St. Louis Rams were unable to achieve a third Super Bowl appearance, nor to win on multiple occasions.

Curiously, it was the New England Patriots, and their young quarterback Tom Brady, who defeated the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI, the second and final appearance for the Rams of that period.

The new face of NFL success?

The LA Rams now get a second chance at a dynasty. It is fitting that the Rams’ two chances at a dynasty bookend the Patriots dynasty. The Greatest Show on Turf ended with the Patriots winning Super Bowl XXXVI.  Nearly 20 years later, it was the Sean McVay-led LA Rams who lost to the Patriots in Super Bowl LIII. Since that time, their quarterback Tom Brady had signed on with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the New England Patriots have not been nearly as competitive.

Of course, the Rams have signed on quarterback Matthew Stafford some 12 years into his NFL career. With Stafford joining the current Rams team so far into his career, any hope of achieving a Patriots-Esque dynasty is likely out of the question.  Still, the Rams and Matthew Stafford can make some noise in the process.  Winning their first Super Bowl is the first step. Winning a second Super Bowl can be a bold second step.

The future for the LA Rams is as big and bright as the Hollywood sign, but that future is not guaranteed. Winning Super Bowl LVI was to fulfill the team’s legacy and destiny.  But a run at and winning Super Bowl LVII is for the dynasty.
