Here are 5 LA Rams LB prospects to track at the NFL Scouting Combine
Baylon Spector
A potential member of the NFL Draft’s all-name and all-hair team, Clemson ILB Baylon Spector has a lot to prove to ensure his status as an NFL Draft pick, let alone a selection that the LA Rams would make in a position of need.
Some positives are working in Spector’s favor, such as he went to a college football powerhouse in Clemson, which is coming off a down year but has been one of the better places at developing NFL talent.
The other major positive for Baylon Spector is he has an excellent mind for the game of football, which is a valuable trait for a player trying to play inside linebacker and trying to play a role on a Super Bowl contender.
Still, the mental aspect only carries a player so far in the NFL, and his physical questions could be an issue. In a sport with some of the fastest, strongest, and biggest men on the planet, not having the speed, strength, or bulk to fit a scheme is a problem.
Being a scheme fit is not a deal-breaker, as positionless players are emerging in the NFL, but players must have a way to win physically in the NFL. That stated, his lack of a proper position could help him fall right to the LA Rams as a second linebacker pick.
At Clemson, Spector was a 4-3 linebacker who saw reps as a sub linebacker, which is where he could see reps for the LA Rams early in his career. Drafting Baylon Spector with one of the previous linebackers could help shore up the LA Rams linebacker ranks.
His lack of proper position could also allow defensive coordinator Raheem Morris more creativity with the identity of his defense. With the LA Rams defense likely to look slightly different after offseason departures, a positionless player is intriguing.
Spector’s NFL Scouting Combine performance could also shed light on a more definitive role for the linebacker at the professional level, so he is a player worth watching.
