Zyon McCollum, Sam Houston State – CB

As a small school standout, there is automatically a level of interest in learning more about Zyon McCollum during the NFL Scouting Combine. The NFL Scouting Combine is not the first showcase for McCollum, as his showing as the Senior Bowl was also interesting.

At 6-foot-4, McCollum is one of the largest cornerbacks in the draft class, but he plays with a comparable speed to smaller cornerbacks. Tariq Woolen is the same size, but he is likely to be chosen much sooner than McCollum.

McCollum is more than an athletic specimen, as he possesses qualities that are valuable for a cornerback in the NFL. He can hold his own in coverage and is a physical defender that uses his athleticism during the game.

He is viewed as a developmental prospect who will need time to develop at the NFL level. Still, he does have years of experience playing cornerback at the college level. Time training in an NFL weight room and training with NFL players will help take him to the next level.

Zyon McCollum would be a significant transition for the LA Rams, as Darious Williams was one of the smaller cornerbacks in the league, and McCollum would be among the largest cornerbacks in the league.

The size difference would not change much schematically for the LA Rams, but it is something that could be under consideration for the scouts.

McCollum will be worth keeping an eye on during the DB portion of the NFL Scouting Combine because it will be interesting to see how he compares to the other cornerbacks. McCollum will also be among the candidates to run the fastest 40-yard dash times.
