There are many reasons why the LA Rams would and should have an interest in re-signing wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. for another run at an NFL Championship. For starters, the young man quickly integrated into the LA Rams‘ rather complex offensive play structure and became a vital contributor to the offense during the team’s playoff run.
The hope for OBJ when the Rams added him to the roster was to get some yards in a cameo/rotational role out of the newcomer. But the Rams lost starting wide receiver Robert Woods for the season due to an ACL injury, and the team was forced to fast-track Beckham into a meaningful receiver in the offense almost instantaneously.
After three games of mixed results, he showed up with a huge six of seven catches for 77 yards and a touchdown against the NFC West rival Arizona Cardinals. While he caught just 27 of 48 passes for the Rams offense during the regular season, he did manage to haul in five touchdown receptions. That was his highest scoring total since his six-touchdown performance in 2018 for the New York Giants.
His 21 of 26 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns in four playoff games for the LA Rams proved that he could be relied upon to catch passes thrown his way. In fact, his 80.8 percent completion rate was the best completion run of his career. By many accounts, he was on track to end up as the MVP of SB LVI for the LA Rams until he fell to the ground due to a non-contact injury.
Now, many teams and their corresponding fan bases will no doubt be very interested in his health, injury history, and NFL future. So here is his
Odell Beckham Jr.’s injury history
February 2022 – Super Bowl ACL injury
Odell Beckham Jr.’s most recent ACL injury was a non-contact injury that occurred with just under four minutes to play in the second quarter. At the time of his injury, the Rams were in the lead and the Bengals secondary did not appear to have an answer for OBJ.
He has since had successful surgery. Since this is his second ACL injury, his recovery is anticipated to require up to nine months. That means that he will be ready to play in early November.
While NFL teams could take a leap of faith by signing OBJ, look for the LA Rams to extend one of their 2021 NFL season offensive heroes.
October 2020 – ACL injury
In Week 8, OBJ would suffer an ACL injury to his left knee. He would sit out the final nine games of the 2020 NFL season.
His ACL surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews. The surgery went well, and his recovery was highlighted by a number of videos showing Beckham significantly exerting himself to push the knee to heel quickly.
December 2018 – Quadricep injury
Odell Beckham Jr. suffered a deep quadriceps bruise against the Philadelphia Eagles. He would miss the final four games of the season.
It was the ambiguity of whether OBJ would play or not that seemed to convince the New York Giants to trade OBJ at the end of the season to the Cleveland Browns.
October 2017 – Ankle injuries
OBJ injured his left ankle in the preseason, forcing him to miss the final two preseason games and the first regular-season game of the 2017 season. He later reinjured the ankle, this time fracturing the joint, in October 2017. That sidelined him for the rest of the season.
The second injury to his left ankle was significant and may have occurred due to a high-ankle sprain that occurred earlier in the season that had just healed. Based upon post-surgical reports, he fully recovered from the injury.
September 2014 – Hamstring injury
Odell Beckham Jr. injured his hamstring in training camp and reaggravated the injury in the preseason. That injury forced him to miss the first four regular-season games with the New York Giants.
Will the LA Rams re-sign the veteran wide receiver? Will another team take a chance on the injured free agent wide receiver?
