Where are LA Rams paying the most money on positional groups?
By Bret Stuter
We know that the LA Rams currently are the Third-highest NFL payroll currently projected for their 2022 NFL season. In the past, the team has been a bit frugal, as much of their salary cap was consumed by dead cap money – or money that was already spent But that leaves an even greater question. If the LA Rams dead cap is not the culprit of where the Rams salary dollars are going, where are they spending their money?
To get the lowdown, we need to borrow the expertise of Salary Cap experts over at Spotrac.com and work out which positional groups appear to be significant investments for the LA Rams, the defending NFL Champions.
Rams roster is already robust
One of the first stops is to determine exactly how many players the LA Rams are paying for in relation to the rest of the NFL. As of now, the Rams have 61 players under contract, which is the second-most in the NFL.
That’s above the 53-player active roster limit, so the theory for any players signed or added to the roster must either: Significantly improve the team, or add young players to develop for future roster needs, or thicken the team depth at shallow positions to ensure successful OTAs, training camp, and preseason activities.
So the trick for the LA Rams is to see where the team is spending money and try to recalibrate the team’s payroll. The goal for the Rams is to either spend money in a more evenly distributed fashion or if that fails, to shift the team’s payroll to reflect the production and importance of that position’s contributions to the team.
