If you expected the LA Rams to draft offensive linemen in 2022, you may be a bit surprised. Even as the rumors leading up to the Rams Free Agency priorities seemed to be focused upon re-signing projected free agents like OLB Von Miller and WR Odell Beckham Jr., the team was working behind the scenes to keep as much of their Super Bowl-winning offensive line intact.

Out of five potential losses, four to free agency and one to retirement, the LA Rams have already addressed two positions. We shared earlier about the reading reports that the Rams will extend OT Joseph Noteboom to a three-year $40+ million deal that is evidence that he will be the team’s starting left tackle in 2022 and going forward.

Was there ever a plan in place for the LA Rams offensive line? It certainly appears as though the team has a solid handle on everything so far. Even as the team faced losing five offensive linemen, with three starters and two backups either on expiring contracts or pondering retirement, the front office had a solid plan in place.

Rams jump on OL extensions out of the gate

Now, there are new reports to share, and please forgive me as I am falling behind. For starters, the LA Rams will extend offensive center Brian Allen to a three-year $24 million deal that will now anchor four of the five starting offensive line positions.

Unlike their 2021 strategy of abandoning veteran offensive linemen to free agency, the front office has wasted no time in jumping into extensions for veteran offensive linemen.

And the extensions are for players emerging from their rookie contracts. That means that the team is locking in players for the next two to three years to develop together into one of the most cohesive and productive offensive line units in the NFL.
