Option III:

The LA Rams added TD Kyle Markway to a Reserve/Futures contract for 2022 earlier this year. The Rams first added Markway late in training camp after he was released by the New York Giants in May 2021. He has ties to former RB-now-TE coach Thomas Brown, having come from South Carolina being signing with the Giants as an undrafted rookie in 2020.

He is certainly big enough to fit the bill. Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 250-pounds, he has the right dimensions to hold up in both blocking and pass-catching roles in the NFL. He joined the LA Rams roster too late to make any headway, but there is room for optimism over his chances as the team made it a point to bring him back for the 2022 season. Long shot? Perhaps. But at this time a year ago, Kendall Blanton was a long shot to make the team. Things change. And just as an aside, do not discount his familiarity with Coach Brown. That could play a huge role in training camp.

Wild card:

In any receiver discussion for the 2022 season for the LA Rams, get used to the habit of discussing TE/WR Jacob Harris. In the never-ending cycle of is he a tight end or is he a wide receiver, Jacob Harris is that guy who has been on injured reserve, has only taken fifteen offensive snaps, and yet could burst into the NFL scene like gangbusters in 2022.

The guy is built like a giraffe (sorry if that sounds like a Jared Goff comparison, as it’s not). He is a tall 6-foot-5, weighs 211-pounds, and those long gaping strides of his chew up real estate very quickly. As in sub-4.4-second 40-yard dash very quickly. While he is an ideal size and speed to have an excellent NFL career, he arrived rather raw to the LA Rams.  Although he was injured in his rookie season, do not believe that will be a setback to his 2022 season. Most of his challenge was learning the ropes, and he certainly got a solid exposure to them in the Rams training camp.

The only question is how will the Rams view him this year? He arrived at the Rams and was immediately categorized as a tight end. But as the team’s receivers’ depth thinned, and the tight end ranks thickened, the team shifted him into the wide receiver category.

Now, with the LA Rams tight end depth thinning, and the receivers’ depth robust once more, will he be flipped back to the tight end? Will it matter?

Don’t rule out the Rams drafting a tight end to develop for the future. But on the other hand, don’t panic if they don’t. This team should be good to go in either scenario.

Trending. Enough pretenders, FA OLB Von Miller now rumored to be leaning to the contender, the LA Rams. light
