Double down on Seahawks LBs?

If the LA Rams do sign up Bobby Wagner, would it make any sense to consider his former teammate OLB K.J. Wright? Wright is suited for a rotational role, but that could be exactly the bridge needed for this defense to get from today through the early part of the season.

Another 11-year veteran? Yep. At this late stage of the game, the NFL personnel departments have not yet invested in the seasoned veterans. But historically, the right player of any age or experience can make a difference in chances of success.

On paper, Wright is not exactly a show-stopper. He is versatile enough to line up at any linebacker position in the NFL, but his ability to set the edge, rush the passer, stuff the run, and cover the flat may not be what it once was. In a baseball analogy, signing Wright is less swinging for the fences and more akin to a bunt single. But the LA Rams need to consider all options, and Wright is certainly a veteran presence.

Wright can tackle, hard. That’s always welcome to a defense. But he also has the calm cool demeanor of a seasoned veteran who can deliver that quiet confidence that is sometimes lacking and oftentimes erratic with younger players. He is one of those quiet signings that may not be imminent but would be a boost to the Rams roster if and when it happens.
