Reserve/Future contracts

The LA Rams have announced five offensive linemen on reserve/future contracts, which are the offseason equivalent to the practice squad. Right now those four players are:

  1. OT Chandler Brewer, a player who the coaching staff has been high on in the past, but who finally has a chance to move up in the depth
  2. IOL Jeremiah Kolone is a true interior offensive lineman who can back up the offensive center position
  3. OL Max Pircher, an International Player Program member who continues to learn the NFL on the team’s roster in an exempt roster spot
  4. OT Adrian Ealy, a huge offensive tackle who was signed up after the 2021 NFL Season could be in line for a roster spot
  5. IOL Drake Jackson, a talented and athletic offensive center, although who is not currently listed on the team’s official roster *

*  Drake Jackson’s Twitter account indicates that he is a UK assistant. UPDATE: Subsequent reports have now confirmed that Drake Jackson is a graduate assistant, taking up coaching, at his alma mater the University of Kentucky.  He was officially released by the LA Rams on April 19, 2022.

On paper, that amounts to

12

11 offensive linemen, all of whom have arrived by deliberate decisions from the coaching staff. All of them have worked with the coaching staff in the past, even two newcomers in Adrian Ealy and Drake Jackson, who were added to the team during their outbreak of COVID-19.

The team circled back around to re-sign them for their 2022 training camp.

In essence, the LA Rams have already boosted their offensive line unit’s depth to the point where the team may be comfortable with emerging from another draft without making any selections there. Is that the wisest strategy?
