LA Rams Draft: Impossible athleticism yields extraordinary results

Reinventing the wheel, er, NFL Championship roster

The LA Rams know all about the concept of valuation and masterfully assembled their roster throughout the 2021 NFL Season with one eye on increasing the value of their team all season long. The Rams traded for New England Patriots RB Sony Michel in late August 2021.

The Rams front office traded for veteran OLB Von Miller just before the NFL trade deadline. Days later, the team signed up  PR/KR Brandon Powell in early November 2021. Less than a week after that, the team signed free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Three transactions in November 2021, all of which helped to propel the team to victory in Super Bowl LVI.

The LA Rams have just six players from their Super Bowl LIII appearance remaining on the team. As you read this, five active players and two injured reserve players have signed on with new NFL teams. Two more active players have since retired. Five more active players await their fate as they have yet to be signed out of the NFL Free Agency market. That’s 14 players out of the 53-player roster who may not return to the team just months after their Super Bowl LVI victory.

Replacements for that amount of attrition that has already impacted the team and may continue to do so must come from somewhere. Believe it or not, the team typically begins each NFL season among the youngest rosters in the NFL. How can a team with so much success be so young? By drafting shrewdly and successfully.
