When the Saint Louis Rams drafted WR Az-Zahir Hakim with the 96th pick of the 1998 NFL Draft, little did the organization realize that they were putting the finishing touches to the “Greatest Show On Turf” offense that would win the franchise’s first Super Bowl. While other receivers may have gotten more yards for the team, Hakim was the perfect fit for the team that already boasted wide receiver Isaac Bruce, and running back Marshall Faulk. And the Rams would soon add Torry Holt,

He stood 5-foot-10 and weighed in at 189-pounds. He was a Los Angeles California native. He was chosen one year before the Rams added WR Torry Holt, who was drafted in 1999. The star receiver played for the Rams for four seasons on his rookie contract before signing on with the Detroit Lions.

A year after being drafted, Hakim helped the Rams win Super Bowl XXXIV by defeating the Tennessee Titans by a score of 23-16. Hakim put the juice in the Greatest Show On Turf offense, literally threatening to score whenever he had the ball in his hands.

While many remember the 5-foot-10 189-pound receiver out of San Diego State as a wide receiver, he was also a very accomplished special teams player as well. In fact, for the St. Louis Rams, he returned 112 punts for 1,280 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned three kickoffs for 37 yards as well. In fact, he was so versatile for the Rams that he also rushed 22 times for 143 yards and one touchdown.
