LA Rams FA additions snubbed on PFF’s 2021 Top 101 list
By Bret Stuter
Over the course of the 2021 NFL season, the LA Rams were blessed with quite a few noteworthy performances by key players. And yet, at the end of the day, sometimes the consensus over who was and who was not performing at their peak on the roster cannot truly be reached.
The Rams had a stellar 2021 season, and there were any number of players who truly placed the team on their backs and showed up in a big way. But the objective assessment of individual player performances for the season never seems to line up with my own little checklist.
I saw the LA Rams‘ now-retired OT Andrew Whitworth having one final NFL season worthy of inclusion among the Top 101 player performance of the season. And while not a 400-carries type of player, I was half expecting the small but mighty usage of RB Sony Michel to be worthy of honorable mention in this list. After all, he did put up some excellent performances later in the Rams’ 2021 NFL season.
Meanwhile, two additions to the roster from the NFL Free Agency market: WR Allen Robinson and ILB Bobby Wagner, were nowhere to be found on this list either. That’s a bit surprising for Wagner.
- 2 – Aaron Donald
- 3- Cooper Kupp
- 24 –
Von Miller(signed with Bills for 6 years at $120 M) - 29 – Jalen Ramsey
- 43 – Matthew Stafford
- 53 – Rob Havenstein
- 97 – Brian Allen
The overall list is a pretty solid reflection of the Rams’ season. Still, I’m not sure how you can exclude Wagner’s career-high 170 tackle performance that included 1.0 quarterback sacks and one interception. Instead, the list included San Francisco 49ers inside linebacker Fred Warner. Warner is a good player, I’ll give you that. But he had 137 tackles, 0 interceptions, and 0.5 quarterback sacks.
So like many presumed ‘objective’ lists, this one is pretty subjective as well. Oh well, we’ll look for their names in 2022.
