LA Rams schedule and 2022 Training camp dates are set

It’s that time once more to turn our attention in three different directions simultaneously.  That’s necessary because the LA Rams have three different categories of events taking place this month. Each category has its own set of rules and or regulations that are updated each year. That update for the 2022 Training camp dates for all 32 NFL teams was released on April 1, 2022.

Of course, that is a lot to process, so we’ve extracted the elements of the news release that is specific to the LA Rams Training Camp dates and provided them here.

Rams Training Camp dates

1. First Day: April 18
2. OTA Offseason Workouts: May 23-24, May 26, May 31-June 2
3. Mandatory Minicamp: June 7-9

Each year, teams organize their training camps into three Phases. That classification eases the manner for the NFL to rule on what is and is not permitted in each phase to ensure that no team has a competitive advantage.

Phase One primarily focuses on cardiovascular training, and meetings to familiarize everyone with coaches, concepts, and classrooms. Phase one makes up the first two weeks of the program and also allows teams to begin to bring players up to NFL conditioning. Any necessary physical rehabilitation takes place at this time.

Phase Two is when players begin to break into their positional groups and conduct more ‘football” style training and drills. This phase lasts for the next three weeks and focuses on on-field workouts for both individual players or positional group instruction and drills. While no positional groups can square off against different positional groups, offensive players can line up across from offensive players and defensive players can line up across from defensive players. Everything is done at a walkthrough pace, and no physical contact is permitted.

Phase Three consists of the next four weeks of the program. Finally, defensive and offensive players can test their coverages, schemes, and ability to read what their opponent will do on the practice field. Teams may conduct up to 10 days of organized team practice activity, or “OTAs”. Since this phase is without pads, the no-live contact remains enforced. Teams are now permitted to organize training drills in 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 groupings.

Rams Free Agency dates

1. Last day for RFAs to sign offer sheets: April 22
2. Last day for teams to exercise their right of first refusal: April 27

The LA Rams have officially tendered offers to placekicker Matt Gay, inside linebacker Travin Howard, and backup quarterback John Wolford.  They must sign their offer by April 22. If any RFA chooses not to sign their offer sheets, the Rams will retain exclusive negotiating rights with the player.

If the player has not signed an offer sheet by the Tuesday following the 10th week of the regular season, then as of 1:00 pm PT that day, the player is unable to play for the remainder of that season.

Rams Draft dates

1. Last date for the physical exam of rookie prospects: April 20
2. Last date to time, test, or interview rookie prospects: April 27
3. 2022 NFL Draft: April 28-30

Perhaps one more important date to keep on your radar is September 8, 2022, which is the debut of the 2022 NFL season on Thursday Night Football. Before everyone rushes to check their calendars, that will likely be approximately five calendar months away when you read this article.
