With the 212th selection of the 2022 NFL Draft
In the sixth round, the LA Rams select
A versatile offensive lineman like Logan Bruss is always a wise decision. But adding an offensive lineman like Logan Bruss, who can slide into the vacated utility offensive lineman role just vacated by presumed starting left tackle Joseph Noteboom is better yet.
Bruss is a 6-foot-5 316-pound powerhouse out of the University of Wisconsin, a site with a well-established reputation for churning out solid NFL offensive linemen. Bruss is one of those players who enter the draft with no clear consensus. Some draft profiles see him as a plug-and-play NFL starter at either offensive guard or offensive tackle. Others view him as a work in progress.
Because this is a dream mock draft scenario, he falls to the Rams in the sixth round but retains all of those optimistic projections. Adding a player like Bruss gives the offensive line vital flexibility. The team’s current plan appears to be to promote Noteboom to left tackle and reserve center Coleman Shelton to offensive guard. But what is the team’s Plan B if either of those players struggles?
Well, adding Logan Bruss immediately affords the team an emergency Plan B if either player struggles. I’ve no doubt that the coaches have already talked through various scenarios, and are not relying upon the addition of Bruss to solve any questions. But if the front office does draft him, he will immediately be inserted into any discussions.
In a best-case scenario, he competes for a starting role right out of the gates. He is the type of offensive lineman that I personally love to see operate. He is able to multi-task, and in the process becomes that much more valuable to the LA Rams offense. After getting his initial block neutralized, he will turn upfield to look for linebackers or defensive backs to pop as well. He keeps going on the play until the whistle sounds.
If the LA Rams only add one offensive lineman, the upside and versatility of Logan Bruss make him an ideal fit for the Rams.
