LA Rams rumors Akiem Hicks

The wishes of LA Rams fans are coming in loud and clear. To each and every signing, to each rumor, to each transaction, invariably comments would come pouring in that the LA Rams need a pass rusher.  Of course, the underlying sentiment is implied that the team should add an outside linebacker. The departure of Von Miller is tough to accept.

I think that the team will do exactly that, but rather than pay inflated market rates for a free agent, I expect that the team will take complete advantage of the 2022 NFL Draft surplus of outside linebackers, and add multiple prospects, either during the draft or by signing undrafted free agent rookies after the draft.

Still, rookies and the LA Rams do not always equate to instant production. The Rams added outside linebacker Chris Garrett in 2022, and he found himself redshirted through the season.  So the Rams may need to address their pass rush capacity in some way. Thankfully, the team has more than one option to bolster their roster depth of pass rushers.

The Rams could sign a veteran outside linebacker. But the team will likely pursue that route after training camp begins, perhaps as late as roster cuts. Timing-wise, it really doesn’t make financial sense to add to the team’s OLB ranks right now, just weeks away from potentially finding a top-rated player falling to the Rams at 104 or lower.

But for those positions that are not as deep in this draft, say, a defensive lineman, it would be perfectly acceptable to add a veteran at the right price. So how does one attract a discounted price from an NFL veteran at this point in the offseason? To answer that, we need to turn to social media.
