I love to go back to the history of the LA Rams draft selections, and try to recreate the dynamics in the room for the discussions over controversial selections made at the time, but which proved to be franchise-changing decisions.

Former LA Rams Director of Player Personnel Ray Agency pounded the pulpit for the undersized defensive tackle Aaron Donald from the University of Pittsburgh. Viewed by some as too short to be worthy of a first-round grade, Agnew was so passionately insistent that he pounded the table to emphasize his point.

"“He’s one of the main reasons I’m here. He was the one that was bragging about me when I wasn’t here.” – Aaron Donald as per Yahoo Sports, Kimberly A. Martin"

Former LA Rams Brad Holmes fought his own separate battles for players. He was the guy who fought so very hard for the LA Rams to claim DB Darious Williams off the waiver wire from the Baltimore Ravens. He also was the driving force behind the Rams’ selection of DB Jordan Fuller out of Ohio State University in the 2020 NFL Draft.

This year, their incredible instincts will aid the Detroit Lions to navigate the NFL Draft. For the Rams, others will need to make their voices heard.

Both Williams and Fuller, one from the waiver wire and another from the sixth round of a recent NFL draft, would become starters in the LA Rams defense for rookie defensive coordinator Brandon Staley. That defense cooked folks, ending the year as the Top-Ranked NFL defense. The reason?

Aaron Donald, Darious Williams, and Jordan Fuller were three starters on that unit. They would start the following year as well, contributing to the team’s first Super Bowl victory for the city of Los Angeles.

Now with the 2022 NFL Draft just days away, and with the draft selections for the team coming so late in the process, you have to wonder if any such passionate discussions will playout for the team this year? If they occur, who will be pounding their fists on the table?
