Rams Free Agency option V: Odell Beckham Jr.

While the LA Rams are very optimistic over their current wide receivers, the team has remained quite optimistic and hopeful to re-sign free-agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the roster as well. It’s a roster signing that makes absolute complete sense for both the player and the team.

The LA Rams salvaged his NFL reputation in a matter of four short months. When he was released from the Cleveland Browns amidst controversy, only a handful of teams gave him the time of day. The LA Rams signed OBJ to a heavily incentivized contract with most of the compensation skewed towards the team finding post-season success.

And that is exactly what happened. OBJ earned just $1.25 million during the regular season but tacked on an additional $3 million thanks to the LA Rams winning SB LVI. Unfortunately, it was during the first half of that Super Bowl victory that OBJ fell to an ACL injury.

But was that a blessing in disguise? You see, he reinjured the same site as a previous ACL injury. During the surgery, not only was the new injury corrected, but the surgeon believes that he was able to repair the previous damage that had not healed before.

While adding OBJ has been a presumption, getting the deal done will do quite a bit for the direction the front office can take through the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft.

The fact of the matter is that this could and should all add up in the LA Rams’ favor. Nothing is more painful than feeling underappreciated, unwanted, or unfulfilled. Odell Beckham Jr. rediscovered the joy of the NFL by joining the LA Rams.  Now, what can the LA Rams do about their pass rush? Perhaps Melvin Ingram could help?
