Rams Free Agency option II: CB Kevin King

There is no question that the LA Rams are aware of the need to bolster the ranks of their secondary, and when the Rams go after a free agent, they don’t go bottom shelf when it comes to aiming for a starter.

Right now, the lone true blue-chip cornerback left in the NFL free agency market in my mind is young cornerback Kevin King. The LA Rams had been linked to CB Stephon Gilmore, but once more lost out to another NFL team. This time it was the Indianapolis Colts in the bidding war.

So is it any great surprise that the LA Rams have been in discussions with him regarding joining the team? But with Gilmore out of the picture, the Rams’ front office will need to pivot and regroup.

King of the castle?

One such player is the former Green Bay Packers free agent cornerback Kevin King. Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 200-pounds, the former Washington Husky is ideally suited for the Rams secondary, built large enough to defend the tallest NFL receivers, while boasting 4.43-second 40-yard dash speed to allow him to stay close to the speedy receivers as well.

Yes, he is young but promising and is poised to take a step up.  He fell out of favor in the Packers’ secondary, and truly needs a chance to restore his reputation. I believe the Rams can sign him to a very team-friendly deal, and actually get quality starts out of him. And as a former teammate of Taylor Rapp, there could even be the chance to get better production out of another defensive back in the process?

Finally, the rumors over Tyrann Mathieu have not gone away. Does he make sense?
