Defensive backs

While the LA Rams did not rush to re-sign defensive back Donte Deayon for the 2022 NFL season, I think that enough has changed for the LA Rams to warrant doing so. For starters, let’s not forget that the Rams played Deayon 57.4 percent of the defensive snaps (Per Lineups.com) in the 2021 NFL season. That is only less than Darious Williams and Jalen Ramsey.

While Deayon stands 5-foot-9, his 159-pound frame is simply not big enough to provide ample coverage against some of the bigger receivers/tight ends that the LA Rams face in a season. Still, he stepped up for the defense off the bench in 2021 and has been a rather pleasant surprise throughout the season

He knows the Rams defense, can certainly play either a spot starter or quality rotational player in the secondary and should be signable to a team-friendly deal.  With the Rams releasing DB Kareem Orr, the defense needs numbers. Deayon is a capable defensive back who the LA Rams should sign immediately after the draft ends.

Honey Badger

While there has been no official confirmation of any connections between DB Tyrann Mathieu and the LA Rams, there ultimately were reports of the Rams pursuing DB Stephon Gilmore before Gilmore opted to sign with the Indianapolis Colts.

That should pave the way for the Rams to pivot their focus towards this versatile veteran defensive back. Tyrann Mathieu and the LA Rams have been the topic of repeated NFL rumors so far this offseason.

While he serves as a safety, Mathieu is far too versatile to be limited to center field, particularly in the LA Rams defense. The Rams may pinch pennies in some places, but they love to have aces in the secondary, and Mathieu would certainly be an addition to the defense that could prove to have long-lasting benefits.
