Rams Mock Draft: LA Rams draft 11, make 2 trades back
By Bret Stuter
Round 4
With the 127th pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, the LA Rams finally make a selection and choose a good one in OLB Dominique Robinson out of Miami (Ohio). The LA Rams have two significant areas of need in this draft, outside linebacker and defensive back, so it was merely waiting to see which position had the more highly regarded prospect remaining on the draft board.
Robinson is a former wide receiver turned Edge rusher thanks to his jump to 6-foot-5 and 253-pounds. Despite his inexperience on the defensive side of the ball, he has flashed NFL potential for a very good player at outside linebacker. In just two seasons at the position, he clocked 37 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, and 6.5 quarterback sacks in 15 games. Athletically, he is off the charts. The trick with his role on the LA Rams defense is getting him active on special teams and prepared quickly enough for a rotational role on the defense.
At 142, the LA Rams address their secondary needs with CB Alontae Taylor out of Tennessee. Whether it is due to the fact that this draft class is relatively deep at the Rams’ positions of need, or just the random luck that happens in some drafts, the Rams find one of the better cornerbacks in this draft remaining.
The foundation for a good defensive back is fearlessness, confidence, speed, and athleticism, and Alontae Taylor exhibits a straight flush in all categories. Standing 6-foot-0 and weighing 196-pounds, this young man blazes at a 4.36-second 40-yard dash.
Taylor showed improvement throughout his SEC college playing career, and truly put on a solid senior season with 60 tackles, two interceptions that included one pick-six, and one forced fumble. His speed also places him as an ideal special teamer in the gunner role. While he could stand to add about 10+ pounds of muscle mass to handle the physicality of NFL play, he makes an ideal addition to the LA Rams roster.
