The LA Rams did not have a pick in the first round of the draft this year. But don’t tell them that. Not only do they already know, but they went ahead and held a press conference anyway. And yes, it was worth it.

From raising the hackles of the New England Patriots fans to the casual fireside chats feel, the opportunity to witness the LA Rams head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead talk to the media as the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft played on in the background was… uniquely entertaining.

Of course, if you are a general manager for an NFL team without any picks in the first round of the annual NFL Draft, how do you spend your time?  Well, if you are employed by the LA Rams, you ‘rent a really really cool house in the Hollywood Hills’ and hold a press conference that is a bit about no specific agenda whatsoever. And then, you mention that other NFL GMs have contacted you and asked you for advice on what to do on that first day of the NFL Draft when you really have nothing more to do than… wait?  Here’s how that went down:

But the real fun happened late in round one when the New England Patriots selected offensive guard Cole Strange with the 29th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. While this is not the year for draft analysts to align often, Strange’s draft profile projected him as a Day 2 prospect, and some draft analysts projected him to fall as far as the fourth round.

So when the news broke over his selection at the 5:13 mark in the Tweet/Press conference broadcast, sit back and enjoy the reaction of both Sean McVay and Les Snead. I truly believe that they had scouted Cole Strange as a player who might fall to them at 104.

This is just priceless stuff.

So what can we take away?  Well, the fact that the LA Rams scouted Strange suggests that versatile interior offensive linemen are absolutely in play for the Rams draft board this year. That means that some talented offensive linemen could be targets for the Rams. Like who?

UCLA Sean Rhyan – who the LA Rams reportedly met with
North Carolina Joshua Ezeudu
UTSA Spencer Buford
San Diego State William Dunkle

Of course, that is just a handful of names who could be players on the LA Rams shopping list, and this is only for an interior offensive lineman. Today is Day 2 of the 2022 NFL Draft. And, if nothing changes, the LA Rams will make their first pick as the last NFL team to do so.
