The LA Rams selected guard Logan Bruss from the University of Wisconsin with the 104th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. But even as we go through all the effort to familiarize the player, assess the fit, and then flesh out how he will fit in the grand scheme of the LA Rams’ future roster needs, there is that other part of the equation:
Who did they leave on the board at 104? After all, there is an opportunity cost of making any draft selection. Whoever was left on the board may end up worse, or better, over the test of time.
The 2022 NFL Draft has been thrilling through the first three rounds, filled with tremendous trades sending stars across the NFL. Several general managers across the league have been extremely aggressive this year, leading to exciting television. But one drama-filled team was not so dramatic in this draft.
Namely, the Los Angeles Rams.
Instead, the Rams have settled on staying pat and patiently waiting for their first pick to come to them late in the third round. Internal offensive lineman Logan Bruss is a great pick and he can work himself into a starting role very quickly, if needed, on the Rams offensive line. The Rams lost starter Austin Corbett in free agency, and face the last contract year for Bobby Evans, David Edwards, and Rob Havenstein in 2023.
However, the critic in me is looking for the shortcomings of this pick. It’s my job and assignment today. Instead, we will look at two players that the Rams could have taken over Bruss with the 104th selection of the 2022 NFL Draft.
