The LA Rams front office has done it again. Just when you were concerned about the state of their secondary, the Rams snatched victory out of the jaws of defeat. Well, is that a bit too dramatic? Sorry in advance. I’m fueled by coffee and oatmeal right now, and as expected, Day 3 of the 2022 NFL Draft is particularly chaotic.
Not only have the LA Rams parked nearly all of their draft picks of this draft on the last day of the three-day event, but now it seems that the front office is playing a bit of side hedging on the side. It was clear that the LA Rams wanted to address their secondary in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. But while the LA Rams were making their pick at 142 for a cornerback, the front office was wheeling and dealing with the Cleveland Browns to get back a familiar starting cornerback.
And the Rams have done so. The Rams are welcoming back former starting cornerback Troy Hill after just one year has passed since playing for the Rams in 2020.
The trade was superbly timed. Suddenly, the LA Rams secondary, desperately thin before entering the draft, now looks quite robust with the addition of Hill and just drafted CB Decobie Durant. What will this cost them? A 2023 fifth-round pick. That’s a great deal for the Rams, who can slide Hill into the vacated starting role.
Are the Rams out of moves? Not if you follow Jalen Ramsey, who is urging Rams fans to lobby for the signing of Tyrann Mathieu, a.k.a. Honey Badger.
After three picks and one trade during the 2022 NFL Draft, the LA Rams roster feels closer to complete than ever before. An edge rusher, a punter, and depth. Then? It’s off to sign a host of undrafted rookie free agents.
