LA Rams draft rounds out roster needs in Round 7
By Bret Stuter
The LA Rams ran into Round 7 of the 2022 NFL Draft like a fast money round of some television network game show. Of course, it was within the final 30 picks of a three-day 262 pick event, so it was hitting many of us who were trying to keep pace with the team’s draft news long after our energy had drained out and we were running on fumes.
This was not the typical Rams draft. Oh no. Not a single wide receiver was drafted. Nor was a tight end added to the roster. In fact, by the time the LA Rams entered Round 7, they had tripled down on cornerbacks by trading for veteran cornerback Troy Hill and then drafting South Caroline State’s Decobie Durant and Georgia cornerback Derion Kendrick.
But the LA Rams also addressed their offensive needs by adding Wisconsin offensive lineman Logan Bruss and Notre Dame running back Kyren Williams. Because both were added quickly to this year’s Rams draft class, you can expect both to get plenty of opportunities to earn playing time throughout training camp.
The team even added a rookie safety from nearby UCLA named Quentin Lake. Lake is a legacy prospect, whose father was a former player and who is currently the defensive backs coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Carnell Lake. Curiously, his father played both cornerback and strong safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
So much to digest, review, analyze, and project. But before we pivot to any version of looking forward, let’s indulge ourselves just a moment to take stock in who we’ve just added to this defending NFL Championship roster, shall we?
