Quick intros

Let’s do some quick introductions to the new rookies who the LA Rams will have in their secondary for the 2022 NFL Season and beyond. After all, they will be with the LA Rams for quite some time, and hopefully for the next four years.

Pick 142: CB Decobie Durant

The quick and dirty take on cornerback Decobie Durant is that he makes a worthwhile case to instantly compete for the role just vacated by DB Darious Williams. That is evidenced even further by the team not re-signing still available DB Donte’ Deayon.  The Rams added Troy Hill to start on the outside. Now, they have added a smaller DB in Durant who will likely play slot, but who has flourished on the outside.

He played QB, S, WR, and CB. He excelled as a gunner on coverage units. While he will need to bulk up from 174-pounds to a more robust 190+-pounds, the Rams have found success at cornerback with 5-foot-10 players. As an added bonus, this guy is a ballhawk, grabbing 12 interceptions in his collegiate career. I like this player.

Pick 211: SS Quentin Lake

The detractors for the Rams’ newest safety Quentin Lake were rather vanilla in nature. Strength, refine coverage techniques, footwork. That same list of weaknesses could be clipped and pasted to any rookie defensive back’s draft profile. What they don’t say is that Lake is a legacy, the son of former NFL All-Pro defensive back from the Pittsburgh Steelers Carnell Lake. His son appears to be on his way to meeting his father’s quality of play.

Lake has a great football IQ, instincts, and appreciation of what is happening on the football field around him. He needs to hit the weight room and the practice field. At 6-foot-1 and 201-pounds, he is a solid size to fill the safety role. He is a solid addition.

That’s two newbies. Now, who are the other two?
